There’s nothing like a good Office Christmas party … and indeed, our Marienburg Office Christmas party last night was nothing like a good Office Christmas party … no, it was far better! Following an uncharacteristically punctual start at 18.00h and some fairly forgettable end-of-year speeches and awards it was then straight into the excellent home-made buffet - and what an international experience this was. With exotic dishes from as far away as Russia, Turkey, France and Köln-Mülheim it was a truly spectacular collection of culinary delight. Whilst modesty forbids me to mention my (rather excellent and very popular) Quiche Lorraine, which, by the way, was rather excellent and very popular, this was only one of the many tasty highlights on offer (although undoubtedly one of the most popular).
You Can’t Teach Talent …
Thereafter, it was noses down and bottoms up for the traditional Marienburg Office Boule Tournament. The six teams lined up under such names as “The Aufrechten”, "The InKa’s” and “Die Gazellen”, but it was left to two of the most experienced teams to fight out the exciting final. Unbeaten in the preliminary round, the “Großwildjäger” showed that they had no intention of taking prisoners, beating the brave but luckless “Chaos Team” in a fairly brief final. Although they clearly had the support of the home crowd behind them, The Chaos Team stood no real chance against the big guns of the Großwildjäger. The full tragedy of the end result became clear after the match when one of the Chaos Team members reminded us that this was his third consecutive defeat in a major Office Boule final. He is currently looking for a competent sports psychologist in the Köln-Worringen area.
